What is CFR?
Cranial Facial Release involves a small medical balloon placed in a nasal passage and briefly inflated. At the practice, it is considered individually after a discussion of your symptoms, relevant history and possible contraindications.
Michael explains the proposed procedure before it begins, observes your response and adapts the next steps to your situation.
Assessment before the procedure
The consultation begins with a discussion of your symptoms, history and expectations. This helps determine whether the approach appears appropriate or whether a medical opinion is needed first.
The sensation may be unfamiliar and varies from person to person. Each step is explained before the procedure, and the session can be stopped at any time. No particular result can be guaranteed.
Breathing and sleep: important limits
CFR is not a medical treatment for sinusitis or sleep apnoea and does not replace prescribed medical care. Persistent nasal obstruction, recurring sinus problems, significant snoring or suspected sleep apnoea require medical or ENT assessment.
Any consideration of CFR is complementary and individual. A symptom listed on a website is not, by itself, an indication for this procedure.
What does the published research show?
A 2022 case report describes endonasal cranial balloon release in one woman with migraine. Its authors call for randomised clinical trials. A single case cannot establish general effectiveness for breathing, sinus problems, sleep or pain.
Read the 2022 single-case report
Medical balloon dilation of the sinuses is a different ENT procedure. Research about that intervention should not be presented as evidence for CFR.
